Principal

Trafton Academy

"Education makes people easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern, but impossible to enslave."

This is my second year as principal of Trafton Academy.  I am very excited about this school year and am honored to be given the opportunity to be part of continuing the Trafton tradition of excellence.

I have been married to Ora Coe Day, III (Cokey) for 35 years.  We have three children and one granddaughter.  Our oldest child, Courtney Day-Silewicz, is a teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas and a proud graduate of Trafton Academy, Class of 1994.  Courtney teaches world geography and sociology at St. Thomas and is a frequent visitor to the Trafton campus.  Ryan, Trafton Class of 1997, is a M.D./Ph. D student at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.  He is part of the Washington University School of Medicine Medical Scientist program and is working in a pediatric brain tumor research lab this summer.  Lindsay, Trafton Academy Class of 2000, is a first year physical therapy student at Louisiana State University School of Allied Health in New Orleans.  She hopes to graduate with a doctorate in physical therapy in 2012.  In December 2008, Lindsay graduated with a 4.0 from LSU and was named the 2008 Academic Athlete of the Year.  She was a University Medalist and was a commencement speaker for the College of Education.  We have a brand new granddaughter, Payten Blair Silewicz, born June 4, 2008, who now rules our lives.  Courtney's husband, Rick Silewicz, is a computer teacher and coach at St. Thomas.  He also owns his own business, Wayne Grayson Technology, specializing in computer engineering and communication programming.

I graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree.  I am certified to teach social studies and science.  Since 1994, I have taught science and social studies to 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and was the 8th grade homeroom teacher.  I have been affiliated with Trafton since 1985 as a parent, volunteer, librarian, part-time teacher, full-time teacher, assistant principal.  This year, I will serve as principal and will also teach 6th grade world history and 8th grade science.

Trafton Academy is a unique school with a group of very talented teachers and dedicated staff members.  It is truly an honor to be working with the students, parents, teachers, and staff.  My door is always open to welcome advice, concerns, and suggestions.
